A Chinese New Year feast in rural Yongfeng County, Jiangxi
province 江西省永丰县 is about
to commence. My student from the area had kindly invited me to join his family for a traditional countryside celebration 围炉吃年夜饭。
Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, marks the beginning of the Chinese lunar year and is the largest holiday
celebrated throughout China (February 2002).

town of Shaoshan, attended this school from 1913-18, and then served as teacher and principal from 1920-22 (May 2001).

The
Terracotta Warriors 兵马俑 in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, are the
remains of the magnanimous burial complex of the first emperor of China, Qin Shihuang. His tomb was filled with jewels, precious
metals, and rivers of mercury, protected outside by this extraordinary underground army (May 2001).

Kaifeng's 开封 modern highlight is its night market, an elaborate and extensive affair, with candy-coated fruits,
lamb kabobs, various noodle dishes, steamed fish, eight treasure pudding, and spiced chipped beef served in biscuits, to name
a few (October 2001).

University 武汉大学 in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province (March 2002).

Plum blossoms adorn the grounds of the Jumping King
Pavilion 滕王阁 in Nanchang, capital of Jiangxi province. With the original dating back to the Tang dynasty, the pavilion
now serves as a testament to Chinese art and culture (February 2002).
