TEACHING AND ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE

TEMPLE UNIVERSITY BEASLEY SCHOOL OF LAW, Philadelphia, PA
Director of Asian Programs, June 2003 to present

Recruit, raise funds, and teach for Temple China rule-of-law programs, including the Masters of Law (LL.M.) degree in Beijing, judicial and prosecutor training programs, and roundtable seminars. Develop and carry out marketing plans, web site optimization, and yield management strategies for international LL.M. student recruiting. Give lectures on U.S. law and legal education at Chinese government agencies and universities. Search for and write grant applications to public and private funders. Draft quarterly reports for and maintain system of donor stewardship with federal, foundation, and corporate donors. Develop curriculum and teach Legal English and Legal Reasoning to international law students. Perform Chinese-English simultaneous and consecutive interpretation at official functions.

Visiting Teaching Fellow, Ford Foundation Grant Recipient, June 2002 to June 2003

Taught bilingual course on U.S. criminal procedure to LL.M. and J.S.D. students. Team-taught criminal legal clinic in Chinese to undergraduate law students, the only criminal clinic allowing student representation of criminal defendants in China. Attended court sessions and guided students in fact investigation, legal research, and client management skills. Facilitated discussions with Chinese judges, prosecutors, and court officials to promote understanding of U.S. laws and procedures. Researched and wrote on issues relating to access of the poor to legal representation in criminal cases.

Yale-China Association Legal Teaching Fellow, June 2001-June 2002

Taught courses in U.S. corporate law and international business transactions to graduate and undergraduate law students. Team-taught consumer rights mediation clinic, guiding students to understand application of Chinese consumer protection laws and successfully mediate disputes between consumers and merchants. Developed press coverage for consumer rights issues, including hosting radio programs and obtaining written coverage in national and local newspapers. Coached students in oral argumentation and legal brief writing skills to participate in international competitions. Assisted Yale-China Association in fund raising and development of scholarship programs for disadvantaged Chinese students.

Taught courses in U.S. corporate and Internet law to graduate and undergraduate law students. Led initiative with New York University School of Law to assist Zhongshan University to establish its labor rights clinic, including formulating grant requests and initial budgets, facilitating and translating for U.S. delegation visits to China, and designing a culturally appropriate clinic structure and policy. Frequently led discussions for students and faculty to cultivate an understanding of the U.S. legal system and rule of law. Assisted students to research the U.S. law school market and target most appropriate schools for further education.

Organized and performed due diligence investigations and reports for mergers and acquisitions. Coordinated global working groups and facilitated drafting sessions. Reviewed legal documents in Spanish and Chinese as transaction required. Handled pro bono immigration matters such as political asylum and citizenship applications.

Drafted and negotiated extensive commercial leases for major shopping center. Researched and prepared bilingual memoranda of law and opinion letters for clients. J.D., received May 1995. Won high oralist award and highest brief score in 1995 Jessup International Moot Court Competition. Finalist in negotiation and client counseling competitions. Earned top score on Socialist Law seminar paper justifying U.S. embargo against Cuba and on International Transactions seminar paper analyzing U.S. and Mexican Unfair Trade Laws under NAFTA.
